CARES Act and Stimulus Checks

On March 27, President Donald Trump signed the CARES Act into law, a federal spending bill aimed at providing relief to U.S. consumers and businesses impacted by COVID-19 crisis.

It could take until the end of April maybe even later for the stimulus funds to hit your account, this is dependent on when the IRS sends them. If you received your tax refund via direct deposit in 2018 or 2019, you’ll receive your stimulus funds the same way. For those that receive social security via direct deposit, your stimulus funds will be deposited into that same account. Otherwise, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will mail checks to your last-known address.

If you have not filed taxes in 2018 or 2019 you can register your account through the IRS Non-filers websites. You will have to set up an account and will be asked the following info.

  • Full name, current mailing address and an email address
  • Date of birth and valid Social Security number
  • Bank account number, account type and routing number, if you have one (it’s best to call us to verify – do NOT share this info over the phone, if anyone asks as it’s a scam).
  • Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) you received from the IRS earlier this year, if you have one
  • Driver’s license or state-issued ID, if you have one
  • For each qualifying child: name, Social Security number or Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number and their relationship to you or your spouse
  • Double-check that you have entered the correct information. Entering an incorrect number could result in a payment delay.
  • You should receive an e-mail from Customer Service at Free File Fillable Forms that either acknowledges you have successfully submitted your information, or that tells you there is a problem and how to correct it. Free File Fillable forms will use the information to automatically complete a Form 1040 and transmit it to the IRS to compute and send you a payment.

We understand things are tense, but please remember we have no say or control as to when these deposits will take place. The IRS has until the end of 2020 to distribute these funds.

Wondering when you’ll receive your funds? Use the IRS Get My Payment tool to find out.

The IRS will NOT call and ask you for your banking information…if someone does it is a scam…HANG UP! Scammers like to use government services to try and gain access to your personal information using phishing emails, phone calls and copycat/fake websites. We cannot stress enough to NEVER share personal information and when in doubt, if it’s too good to be true, it is!
